Compared to Direct Attach Twinaxial Cable solutions (DAC), the hot-pluggable capable Active Optical Cables are more flexible and lighter. The QSFP to QSFP 7 meter connectors have a built-in E/O and O/E converter, which convert the electrical signal into an optical signal. This signal is converted back into an electrical signal and output at the other end of the Active Optical Cable. The connection can be attached to supporting hardware with QSFP to QSFP ports.
The QSFP to QSFP 7 meter transceiver connections of each Active Optical Cable are manufactured according to MSA standards with consideration of SFF and IEEE specifications. Active Optical Cables have better performance compared to Direct Attach Twinaxial Cable solutions, a smaller bending radius, and a smaller diameter.
