Compared to Direct Attach Twinaxial Cable solutions (DAC), the hot-pluggable Active Optical Cables are more flexible and lighter. The QSFP28 to QSFP28 connectors have a built-in E/O and O/E converter, which converts the electrical signal into an optical signal. This signal is converted back into an electrical signal and output at the other end of the Active Optical Cable. The connection can be made to supporting hardware with QSFP28 to QSFP28 port.
The QSFP28 to QSFP28 meter transceiver connections of each Active Optical Cable are manufactured according to MSA standards, taking into account SFF and IEEE specifications. Active Optical Cables have a better performance, a smaller bend radius, and a smaller diameter compared to Direct Attach Twinaxial Cable solutions.
